Our Story
Residents of Auburn Township since 1999, Shari + Jeff were looking to purchase a property that had space for Jeff to run his landscaping business, Ornamental Tree & Shrub, out of. Many properties were looked at, however it wasn’t until their daughters, Sami + Ashley, drove by the “For Sale By Owner” sign - in front of the beautiful white century home - that they found their forever home. The century home, and a vision of the future, was purchased by the Bailey’s in November of 2012. However, their home and property didn’t always appear the way it currently does. The house, barn, outbuildings, and property were in major need of some TLC.
Upon looking at the home, two things were clear. The first was that the farmhouse was beautiful. With hardwood floors throughout, tall ceilings, and some original woodwork, it was clear the house was charming. The second was that it needed extensive renovation. Over the course of 6 months, the Bailey Family repaired plaster, sanded and painted, and refinished floors - just to name a few. Simultaneously, the barn was cleaned out just enough so Jeff’s business could move in.
Within the next few years, the family began the first part of their vision for the property. They began growing a half acre of hops (which has now expanded into a full acre) to sell to local breweries. This was yet another family project. From planting, maintaining, and harvesting; the Bailey’s began to see what the property’s potential was. The property was once again deemed an operational farm in 2016.
Simultaneously to growing hops, the barn and outbuildings also received some necessary TLC. The family always could see the potential for others to enjoy the place they call home. Since 2012, the Bailey's have completed a multitude of projects. From painting, repairing structural supports, replacing siding as necessary, refinishing the original floors, and building a bar - the barn was ready for others to enjoy. Ashley and Brandon would be the first wedding to kick off events at Auburn Acres, getting married on the property and having their reception in the barn in June of 2023. Owning a century home and barn is a never ending project of love. The Bailey’s were pleased to announce the official opening of Auburn Acres’ Event Space in June of 2023.
